This brief guided reflection has become one of my most meaningful leadership rituals.
Years ago, I attended a conference where Raj Sisodia, author of Conscious Capitalism, opened his keynote in a way I never expected. Instead of beginning with slides, stories, or statistics, he invited us into a few moments of quiet reflection. As he slowly shared a series of simple prompts, I found myself quickly writing them down on the back of my notes.
Since that day, I’ve carried those words with me… before important meetings, keynote presentations, coaching conversations – even before both of my TEDx talks. I pull the sheet of paper out and read it, as a way to ground myself in the moment.
I now begin many coaching sessions by reading this reflection aloud, helping leaders pause, become present, and focus on what matters most.
Many clients have asked for a recording they could return to whenever they need to reset before an important conversation or simply reconnect with themselves.
How to use it:
- Find a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted.
- Sit comfortably and take a few slow, deep breaths.
- Listen (or read the statements below) with an open mind. There’s nothing to “do” except notice what resonates.
- Return to it whenever you need to ground yourself before a meeting, presentation, difficult conversation, or the start of your day.
Here’s the recording –>
I hope it becomes as meaningful to you as it has been for me.
